Modification is for when something about your business actually changes. A shifted registered office, a new branch, a change in directors or partners, a different bank account. Say you move your registered office in November. Waiting until the next April window would leave a wrong address on file for five months, and DGFT notices would keep going to the old one. You file a modification in November instead, then still complete the annual update in April.

How To Renew Your IEC Online on the DGFT Portal?

The whole process runs online and takes under an hour when nothing has changed.

Go to<a href="https://dgft.gov.in/"> dgft.gov.in</a>. Select Login, move to Register and choose the option to register as an Importer/Exporter.

Register using your PAN, email address and mobile number. You will receive OTPs on your registered email address and mobile number for verification. After successful verification, you receive a user ID and temporary password, which you can use to log in and set a new password.

<a></a>Step 3: Start a fresh IEC application

After logging in, go to My Dashboard. Move to Importer Exporter Code (IEC), and go to “Apply for IEC”. The portal uses the PAN details provided during registration to identify the applicant.

Complete the required sections covering details such as:

Upload the applicable supporting documents, such as PAN, address proof and bank-account proof. The exact documents depend on the applicant and entity type. The portal accepts supporting documents in PDF format, with each file limited to 5 MB.

<a></a>Step 6: Pay the ₹500 application fee

Click the payment option to proceed to the Bharatkosh payment gateway. The IEC application fee is ₹500, and payment can be made through net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI. The payment details are recorded against the application.
